The SAC Assessment was designed to assist the European Commission in assessing the status of implementation of Article 6(1) of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EWG on the setting of the necessary conservation objectives and measures for Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) in Austria. Based on the publicly accessible objectives and measures for Natura 2000 areas submitted by the federal states, it was examined whether the conservation objectives and measures currently in force in Austria meet the minimum requirements of Article 6(1) set out in the Commission's explanations on the setting of conservation objectives and measures.
