Research on the acceptance of ÖPUL nature conservation measures (2016)

Client: Netzwerk Land

The ÖPUL nature conservation measure helps to preserve and improve the condition of ecologically valuable habitats. At the start of the new EAFRD period 14-20, participation in the nature conservation measure fell short of expectations. Qualitative telephone interviews were conducted with various selected people who are very familiar with the mood and opinion of farmers regarding the ÖPUL nature conservation measure. On the basis of these interviews the most important factors influencing the acceptance of the nature conservation measure were identified. Accordingly, the acceptance of the nature conservation measure at that time depended primarily on the following factors: appreciation, overall farm fertilizer balance, feed quality, combination obligation with UBB, fear, control, bonus level, nature conservation guidance, agricultural chambers. The study results served as input for further measures to increase acceptance in order to improve the effect of the ÖPUL nature conservation measure.
